SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
Health & Rehabilitation
the programme
Healthcare for Every Person with a Disability
Persons with disabilities in Kenya face disproportionate barriers to healthcare, including physical inaccessibility, prohibitive costs, and a shortage of adequately trained healthcare workers. Auschidys addresses these gaps through a comprehensive health and rehabilitation programme that delivers services directly to communities.
Our Response
At its core, our flagship initiative ensures every beneficiary is registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA), unlocking free or subsidised access to essential hospitals, clinics, and specialist services. This commitment directly advances SDG 3 by ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. Beyond registration, our DIET-trained community health volunteers and partnered clinicians provide ongoing rehabilitation, early intervention, and mental health support to prioritise holistic wellbeing for every individual we serve.
Key Impact Highlights:
- 1,000+ persons with disabilities registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions delivered to beneficiaries.
- Mental health and psychosocial support services readily available.
- Early childhood intervention programmes for children with developmental disabilities.
- Community health outreach clinics, including dental services in partnership with Egaz Moniz University.
- DIET-trained healthcare workers and community health volunteers.
- Caregiver training on daily health management and home-based rehabilitation.
Our Approach
- SHA Registration: Every Auschidys beneficiary is registered with the Social Health Authority, ensuring reliable access to Kenya's national healthcare coverage system.
- Clinical Services: Outreach clinics, physiotherapy sessions, and specialised dental care (in partnership with Egaz Moniz University) bring critical health services directly into communities.
- Rehabilitation: Home-based rehabilitation plans, assistive devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids, alongside consistent follow-up support, help beneficiaries regain their independence and mobility.
- DIET Training: Healthcare workers, community health volunteers, and caregivers are trained using the DIET curriculum, building sustainable local capacity for inclusive, person-centred care.
