Partnership with Balm of Gilead Discipleship Group from Mavuno Hill City Campus

In a heartwarming display of love and disability inclusion, the Balm of Gilead Discipleship Group (BOG) from Mavuno Hillcity Campus partnered with AUSCHIDYS Disability Africa to provide support to the families of children and youth with disabilities.

This support came in the form of inclusive fellowship, food donations and economic empowerment.

Recognizing the immediate need for nourishment, BOG has committed to regular food drives, delivering essential supplies to the families of children and youth with disabilities in the Athi River area of Machakos County, and its environs.

In addition to addressing the immediate need, this collaboration is committed to exploring long-term sustainability options by supporting the economic empowerment activities of the beneficiaries of AUSCHIDYS Disability Africa. Specifically, BOG has supported small businesses run by our youth by injecting capital and providing market for the products.

BOG has further fostered social inclusion by facilitating inclusive birthday celebrations for the children and youth with disabilities. Ms. Gladys Muchoki, a member of BOG, has selflessly provided beautiful and delicious cakes to each of the children on their respective birthday months.

“AUSCHIDYS family is one that I have developed a deep love for. The kids extend love in its purest form, so authentic. Their genuine smiles and hugs are what I look forward to in every event with them. It’s such a joy to me to be a blessing to them at every instance I get. Spending time with these specially talented children and young adults is very fulfilling. Mavuno church and especially the Balm of Gilead discipleship group has finally found a place to be a blessing to the society and we always look forward to being a blessing to this awesome family”, says Gladys.

The impact of these initiatives has been life changing. The beneficiaries have reported relief from excruciating hunger and have expressed hope of financial freedom from the support of their small business initiatives. Regular and inclusive interactions have greatly enhanced the quality of life for the families of the children and youth with disabilities. They feel empowered to participate in the social space of their communities, without the stigma that they have previously encountered. This partnership highlights the importance of community driven initiatives in advancing disability inclusion and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities in society.
